City Gives Progress Report on MLK Park Additions
More than a year after breaking ground and a month after its expected opening, the Unity Corner memorial at Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Park remains in progress as upgrades are on the way to the nearby Castle Park playground.
The plan for Unity Corner, located by the intersection of Denning Drive and Morse Boulevard, began in 2012 as an effort by residents of the Hannibal Square neighborhood to create a public memorial to Dr. King and to remember the 1950’s displacement of Black families who resided on what became Lake Island Park. A portion of the park, renamed in 2012 in honor of Dr. King, will feature a 9-foot bronze statue of the civil rights leader that will be set inside a concentric pattern of stone benches. A memory wall will display quotes from Dr. King along with the names of the displaced families.

Elevating Project Dynamics: The Importance of Engaging Landscape Architects at the Onset of Design
Talk to a few landscape architects and you’ll quickly discover we’re not in it for the glory. We’re generally humble. Mostly introverts by nature. We’re technically skilled and immensely capable designers, sure, but where we have found we can make the biggest difference is as collaborators and facilitators.

Inside the Dix.Hite Color Studio
Those unfamiliar with our profession typically assume that landscape architects focus solely on the landscape itself –– as if what we do is an entirely separate entity from the architecture of a building.

Where We've Been Informs Where We're Going: How Site Visits Inspire Design
Every bit of land has a story –– the land existed long before the rise of civilization and its subsequent development. Whether a landscape design project is of the greenfield or infill variety, there's a story to discover in its site and context.

New Leadership & Ownership, Same Dix.Hite DNA
At Dix.Hite, we’re more than just the sum of our parts. And while our people are integral to our work, it’s our central ethos –– designing for life –– that unifies and empowers us.

Resilient Communities Connect People with Each Other and Nature
One of my favorite books is The Lorax. As a landscape architect and arborist, I consider myself a professional tree hugger who is often called to "speak for the trees" like the character in the Dr. Suess children’s book.
