Dix.Hite Brings Home Five ASLA Design Awards
Our team was recently honored with five prestigious awards by the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) in both Florida and Alabama.
Our work on Reiter Park in Longwood, FL was recognized with the ASLA Florida 2024 Award of Merit. Located in the heart of Longwood’s Historic District, Reiter Park is a key destination in the city. We added elements such as the amphitheater and stage, event lawn, wet deck & restrooms, walking trail, boardwalk, healing & sensory garden and playground expansion to transform the park into an outdoor living room for public life. All spaces are open-air and designed to accommodate a variety of activities, group sizes, and offer something at all times of the year.
The New Yard Pattern Book, a pro bono effort with the OUTSIDE Collaborative – a Sustainable Landscape Collaborative – received an ASLA Florida 2024 Design Award of Merit in the Research and Communications category. The New Yard Pattern Book was established by Dix.Hite and other key stakeholders to provide landscape guidelines for master planned communities based on principles of sustainable design intended to maximize community amenities and homeowner experience. The Patten Book focuses on 4 key factors: Low Water Use, Ecosystem Benefits, Healthy Soils and Holistic Pest Management.
Crest Lake Park was awarded an ASLA Florida 2024 Design Award of Honor. The Park is centrally located in Clearwater, with both residential and retail adjacencies, and acts as a retention basin that collects stormwater from the surrounding neighborhoods. The team worked to enhance and revitalize Crest Lake Park by working with an ecologist to develop strategies to improve the water quality with a series of rain gardens and lake edge treatments. The plan enhances canopy areas with supplemental trees and plantings, and includes shade pavilions, boardwalks and dock overlooks, a splash pad, a nature-themed playground, and an update to the existing memorial.
Gulf Shores is a fast-growing community on the gulf coast of Alabama, where outdoor activity is a mainstay of the community lifestyle for all four seasons. Our master plan work for Coastal Gateway Community Park for the City of Gulf Shores received a ASLA Alabama 2024 Honor Award in the Analysis and Planning category. The master plan focuses on sustainable landscape practices that aligned with the city’s vision for 2030, displaying the values of the community through green infrastructure, renewable energy and recycled materials.
Located in Albertville, AL, Sand Mountain Park & Amphitheater is everything one could hope for in a 130-acre park. From family-friendly, public play spaces to live entertainment to elite-level athletic facilities, this park has it all. Dix.Hite provided site planning, amenity design and full landscape and hardscape design services for the park, which includes 7 playgrounds, a new aquatics facility with a splash pad, lazy river and pool, a dog park, RV park, and a state-of-the-art amphitheater. The park was recognized with an ASLA Alabama 2024 Award of Honor.
While we’ve never been “in it” for the recognition, these awards serve as a testament to our clients' vision, the collaboration between the project design teams, and the collective passion, expertise, and commitment that we pour into our work.
