Martin Luther King, Jr. Park
Winter Park, Florida
The timeless principles of Love, Righteousness, Peace, Justice, Hope, and Dream are embodied and expressed throughout the park and offer opportunities for gathering, dialogue, and introspection. The engagement process with the community informed our programming and design implementation. The main goals for this park are to honor the history of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the heritage of the local history community. Special consideration was taken to implement amenities that speak to the current use of the site, preserve tree canopy for shade, create a habitat for wildlife, and encourage users to engage with water. The design includes a renovation to the beloved “Castle Playground” that provides play for a wide range of different abilities in a more naturalistic character. The design creates levels and systems for children to climb and play on while maintaining a castle character and incorporates water components and sensory play.
