Orlando Health, to honor its team members and to expand Lake Beauty Park on its Orlando campus, tasked Dix.Hite to create a peaceful place to rest, relax and reflect. The challenge of the site’s topography offered an opportunity to create a park design which provides a variety of spaces and is a place of tranquility overlooking the lake, offering team members a calm environment to ease workday stresses. The expansion opens views to the lake, includes a flex lawn for events or a sprawl on a warm winter day, as well as intimate and insulated spaces for a “together alone” moment. Shade canopies featuring staff-drawn hearts create thresholds into the park space, while the light coming through the canopies casts welcome mats of hearts in the shadows. Native plants ensure the park supports pollinators as a metaphor for healing and life.
