The Daytona Beach character study creates a framework to leverage public investment as the catalyst for the creation and enhancement of public space. Through the design process, the City has evaluated its cultural assets and existing built environment to guide the design of current and future transportation and public realm projects. The result is a clear visual image of the City’s desired character. This framework ensures public investment and private development adds value to the lives of the citizens, adds value to businesses, enhances the environment and brings vibrancy to the experience of Daytona Beach. Dix.Hite focused on three urban design districts and identified a catalyst project within each. The team conducted site visits through the districts and captured vignettes as artistic portrayals of common places that represent the best of the City’s memorable character.
