Pulse Interim Memorial Orlando, Florida

On June 12, 2016, a violent tragedy shook Orlando when a gunman opened fire on the crowd at Pulse nightclub. In response to the community’s desire for a safe and comfortable space to mourn, the landscape architect, in collaboration with a team of stakeholders, created a pro bono design for an interim memorial to serve as a space for the community to heal. The design celebrates the lives of those who perished, the survivors, their families and loved ones, and the first responders who saved so many. The design is inspired by the mission and vibrancy of the original nightclub, and patterns of use observed prior to construction. Years later, the Pulse interim Memorial continues to stand as a beacon for inclusion and equity in the Orlando community.
